REGULAR OR CASUAL
POOL EQUIPMENT SALES
If you live in Hughesdale then you’ll understand we have constantly changing weather patterns, which means a pool losing water isn’t an uncommon problem.
A pool losing water can be for many reasons such as an issue with the plumbing and leaking pipes, a problem at the equipment, hydrostatic valve, pool lights or a defect in the pool structure. A pool with an infinity edge and trough, pit, channel, or storage tank with faulty 2-way valves, 3-way valves, non-return valves or one way valves can often also be the source of the leak.
If you’re in Hughesdale, losing up to approximately 25mm per week from evaporation during summer is normal.
If you suspect your pool is losing more water than evaporation amounts, you can carry out a bucket test yourself to confirm.
Try The Bucket Test
- Place a brick or rock in the bottom of a bucket and sit the bucket on the steps of your pool.
- Fill the water in the bucket to the same level as your pool and for stability reasons try to have the bucket approximately three-quarters full.
- Have the water in the bucket completely cover the brick or rock.
- Mark the water level on the outside of the bucket using tape or a permanent marker.
- Leave the bucket for two-three days and leave your filtration system running as you usually would. If after this time the bucket has more water than the pool, then you know that you have a leak.
Your next step is to do the test again but turn off your pool pump. Doing this can help isolate the problem and see if the leak is coming from the pool, equipment, plumbing or fittings.
We can then find the exact leak location and give you a quote on the cost of repair. You should never leave a pool leak because it can cause substantial damage to your pool, house, fences or even your neighbours’ property.
Without water-flow and if these safety systems don’t work as expected, your pump could get too hot and its motor seize. A seized motor will require expensive repair or replacement.
Our team at Hughesdale are experts in water-flow and we’re available 7 days a week, ready to be of service when required.
The salt or chlorine in the water from pool leaks can also destroy plants, gardens and lawn areas and travel into your neighbours’ yard, affecting their land as well.
If you live in the Hughesdale area, and you think you have a pool leak it’s best to have it found and fixed as soon as possible.
If the water level drops in your pool and you add water to refill it back to normal levels, all the chemicals in your pool become diluted.
What this means is extra chemicals such as chlorine, soda ash, buffer, stabiliser calcium increaser and salt will need to be added to re-balance your pool water.
Unusually high chemical usage is also a really good indicator that your pool actually has a leak.
